Of Bikes and Life
So, I said I would post any photos from today that seemed worth seeing. I'll do that below, but I have to say that even my beloved sport seems less important today as we learn of the tragic events at Virginia Tech. My heart aches for the loss of life, and for the scars left in the wake of today's violence. The world is broken, and hurting, and at times like this seems beyond repair, past the point of redemption. And yet, in this Easter season, we proclaim another message. That death will not have the last word, that Jesus has indeed risen from the dead, that the in-breaking of the kingdom is real, and active, and now. How I cling to that belief now. And how I know in my heart that God does not "allow" such events, that free will is for all, but that God was with each scared and beloved son and daughter through it all and has now welcomed those who have died into His eternal presence and love. May the souls of the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory.
And, there was a bike race today. Proof that for all the pain in the world, there is also beauty. And redemption, as Tyler Hamilton returned to racing after serving a two-year suspension. Tomorrow, to Rome!
